My top 5 twitter don’ts.

  1. I do not ask – please RT. If people like the content of the tweet and think it will be useful to others they will RT anyway.
  2. I do not RT tweets with links in them without reading linked content first – I want to be 100% sure I agree with the points made in the attached document.
  3. I do not tweet about politics – occasionally RT political content, but without comments and my opinions – I use business rules here.
  4. I do not tell people not to tweet about certain subjects, etc.. – I follow only people I want to listen to. If I am annoyed with the content I stop following – btw – happened once!
  5. I do not use any questionable abbreviations or words – I respect my followers.

    One of my top 5 is ‘do not spam your followers’. Nothing wrong with some self-promotion and product plug-ins. However, when every tweet is all about a money making opportunity or the same blog post – it just clutters the stream. Be mindful and share useful, relevant information. Afterall, those followers are engaging you for a reason. I agree with you on ‘unfollowing’ and tweeps that are annoying or turn out to be spam bots.

    1. Don’t constantly tweet self-promoting stuff – “look at my blog! look at my blog! look at my blog!”.
    2. Don’t quote yourself. It’s totally pretentious.
    3. Don’t follow me if you have 25,000 followers and only one tweet.
    4. Don’t make me regret following you by auto-DMing me with a message like “get 100 followers by clicking here”. Really – when it comes down to it – don’t auto-DM me at all.
    5. Repeating tweets is fine – but please have more than a total of three things to say over the course of a day.

    1. Don’t RT commercial tweets.
    2. Look to see if your RT has already been done to death.
    3. Don’t repeat tweets; at least wait a few hours.
    4. Keep your eating habits to yourself (except great resto recommendations).
    5. Don’t ignore someone who directs a tweet to you. Either reply or un-follow.

    Good to read it. I have unfollowed people who tweet/retweet any kind of porn. No second chance at all. I’m not on Twitter to support pornography.

    If you are going to use Twitter as a chat client then Direct Message the person. The back and forth nature of the chat just adds to the noise.
