Event’s Organizer Guide to Google Wave.

January 12th, 2010 · 12:55 pm @ admin  -  18 Comments

I was asked to help with some marketing activities for the upcoming Social Media in HiTech Conference. One of which is a creation of the event’s Google Wave.

Here are some design principals I used to create a Google Wave for this conference.

Structure:

Main Wave:

-         links to the event web site;

-         wave creator info – people can contact me with any suggestions on how to improve this wave;

-         wave etiquette;

-         links to individual speaker waves;

-         links to individual session waves.

Speaker Wave:

-         Speaker Bio;

-         Links to the sessions where this person speaks.

Session Wave:

-         Session Info;

-         Links to Speakers Waves.

Each wave has event specific tag “SocialTech2010”.

Each wave marked as a Public Wave.

Why to use wave for conferences?

Allows all people interested in the conference communicate about the event before, during and after the conference. Communications are managed on per session and per speaker basis. Though I can’t guarantee each speaker will be checking their event wave, some might…

Please share with your experiences running events on Google Wave!

      I used the simpler version before, with single wave and wavelets per session – does not for large conferences. The easiest way to organize is to split on per session basis and cross-link all the waves. Will be more than happy to discuss further – I have several other examples of events waves with different design approaches.

    Is there a simple way to generate and maintain all those cross-links? Perhaps something with a wiki flavor? I would love to see a robot that searches for waves with the same tag as this one and updates [[braces text]] to link to a wave of the same name – or a blip in a wave.
